The Calendar of Days · Dreamspell and the Maya calendar
Your Mayan kin
The sacred Maya calendar counts days in a 260-day cycle of 20 day signs and 13 tones. The Dreamspell, created by José and Lloydine Argüelles, is a modern calendar built on that count, and it gives everyone a kin: a sign and a tone.
In the Calendar of Days, your kin sits at the centre of a five-card oracle. Turn the cards over, then speak with them.
How it works
Three things to know
Your kin
One of 260 combinations of a day sign (a seal) and a tone, like Kin 78, the White Cosmic Mirror.
Your oracle
Four more cards around yours: a guide, an analog, an antipode and an occult power.
Two counts
The temple shows your Dreamspell kin and your day in the traditional K’iche’ count, which are calculated differently.
In the Calendar of Days
Flip the five cards of your oracle and ask each one what it brings to your day.
From Daniela's sky
Daniela is Kin 78, the White Cosmic Mirror, with the White Wind as her guide. In the traditional Maya count, she was born on 10 Aq’ab’al, the day of dawn.
Questions
Dreamspell and the Maya calendar, asked
Is the Dreamspell the same as the Maya calendar?
No. The Dreamspell is a modern calendar created in the 1980s and 90s. It shares the 260-day structure but its dates differ from the traditional count still kept by Maya daykeepers. The temple shows both.
Do I need my birth time?
No. Your kin depends only on your birth date.
What is a tone?
One of thirteen steps in each cycle, from Magnetic (1) to Cosmic (13), describing how your sign moves.
