The Four Pillars · Chinese Four Pillars (BaZi)
Your Four Pillars
BaZi, or the Four Pillars of Destiny, is a Chinese system that describes your birth moment as four pairs of characters: one each for your year, month, day and hour.
Each pair holds an element and an animal. Your day pillar is you, and its element is your day master. The rest of the chart shows what feeds you and what tests you.
How it works
Three things to know
Four pillars
Year, month, day and hour, each with a heavenly stem and an earthly branch.
Your day master
The element of your day pillar, one of ten, like Yang Wood or Yin Earth.
Five elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, counted across your chart to show what is strong and what is missing.
In the Four Pillars
Read your pillars right to left, see your elements counted, and ask the guide what your day master needs.
From Daniela's sky
Daniela’s day master is Ji, Yin Earth: fertile garden soil, born in winter and surrounded by Metal. Fire and Earth support her.
Questions
Chinese Four Pillars (BaZi), asked
What is my day master?
It is the heavenly stem of your day pillar, the element that represents you in BaZi. The temple finds it from your birth date.
Do I need my birth time?
For the hour pillar, yes. Without it you still get your year, month and day pillars and your day master.
Is my Chinese zodiac animal the same as my BaZi?
Your zodiac animal is just the branch of your year pillar. BaZi uses all four pillars.
